Sarah Stevens for House
Welcome

Rising health care costs…wasteful spending…and self-serving politicians who take advantage of our trust – these are among the reasons it’s critical to elect a new voice for Surry and Alleghany Counties in the State House.

Sarah Stevens is the principled leader and dependable conservative we can trust.  As you learn more about her, you’ll agree with so many others that we need Sarah in the Legislature to strengthen the economy, face head on the issues associated with illegal immigrants, make health care more affordable, and improve the quality of education throughout House District 90.

Sarah’s devotion to real, meaningful improvement for all North Carolinians can be traced to her upbringing.  Born and raised in Surry County, Sarah learned the value of personal responsibility and community service from her parents Bob and Mary Laura Stevens, who raised their 7 children to serve others.

These traditional values still motivate Sarah today.  It’s why she serves as Executive Director of the Greater Mount Airy Ministry of Hospitality, in addition to running her own law firm.  Through The Shepherd’s House and its other ministries, she helps provide short-term housing and assistance for the homeless.  To address our area’s problem of domestic violence, Sarah is leading the effort to open a domestic violence shelter in Surry County which will serve not only Surry County but also Stokes and Yadkin County.  An additional part of this ministry is a warehouse to store and distribute donations of food, clothes, furniture and appliances.

For those who know her best, Sarah Stevens’ inner strength was best shown in her battle with cancer.  With the same quiet determination and spirit of hope that helped her defeat cancer, Sarah will work every day to make health care more affordable and available.  Ensuring we all have state-of-the-art health care is personal to Sarah.  She worked as Patient Advocate for Winston Salem Health Care.  She volunteers for the Surry Cancer Awareness Team.

Sarah will go to work in Raleigh to cut taxes and eliminate wasteful spending.  She will stand strong to protect private property rights from reckless government seizure.  Sarah understands meeting a payroll on her own.  She also understands the loss of jobs because her husband has twice lost his job in textiles due to overseas competition.

From Day One, you can depend on Sarah Stevens to cut excessive bureaucratic red tape, including the political games that are preventing our state’s most hardened, violent criminals from receiving the death penalty.

As a dependable conservative, Sarah believes the Legislature cannot be silent on the issues of traditional North Carolina values.  She will fight to protect our children, safeguard the sanctity of marriage, and respect the dignity of all life.

Sarah is a graduate of Mount Airy High School, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Campbell University School of Law.  She is Past President of the Surry County Bar Association and regularly attends church.  She lives in Mt. Airy with her husband Edwin and daughters Jennifer and Maggie.  She has maintained a private practice as a lawyer since 1986.
